Lambrusco is one of the iconic wines of Emilia-Romagna. and represents a true expression of the culture and history of this region. Reggiano is produced exclusively in the province of Reggio Emilia. A sparkling, fresh and lively wine, it is often associated with conviviality, loved for its versatility and ability to accompany a wide variety of dishes.

But Lambrusco, for the people of Emilia, is not simply a wine. It is a companion to every celebration, every laugh, every tale. The elderly tell of how, as children, they would steal a few sips of Lambrusco from the family barrels. The sparkling taste, with those lively bubbles and deep ruby color, made them feel grown-up, important.

The characteristics of Lambrusco Reggiano

Lambrusco Reggiano is known for its bright ruby red color with violet hues and its cheerful perlage, which makes for particularly sparkling and pleasant drinking. On the nose, it releases notes of red fruit, accompanied by floral and sometimes spicy hints. In the mouth, it is Fresh, lively and light, with a slight acidity that makes it very thirst quenching and perfect to accompany a wide range of dishes.

There are different types of Lambrusco Reggiano, from dry wines to sweet or amabile wines. In fact, the production regulations provide, under the “Reggiano” hat, different types for whose production the following can compete All the different varieties of this ancient grape: Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Montericco, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Viadanese, Lambrusco Oliva, Lambrusco Barghi, to which can be added, for 15%, Ancellotta, Malbo gentile, Lambrusco a foglia frastagliata, Fogarina. The production peculiarity of Lambrusco is the refermentation, which can take place either in the bottle with the traditional or ancestral method, or in autoclave with the Martinotti (or Charmat) method., which allows a more controlled and large-scale production, keeping intact the freshness and fragrance characteristics of the grapes.

We chose two wineries to represent this great national-popular wine: Medici Hermes with Concerto and Lini 910 with Rosso Labrusca. Both wines are on sale for less than 10 euros.

Medici Ermete

Medici Ermete is a well-established company with significant numbers, and the quality of its wines is recognized all over the world. Taking advantage of rigorous selections and technically advanced protocols, the winery manages to express wines of extreme pleasantness and good structure.

Lini 910

Innovators in love with the classic method, the Lini family revolutionized the concept of Lambrusco by clearing it from the cliché of simple wine. Fierce selectors, they have maintained alongside the In Correggio line, the result precisely of great selections, the historic Labrusca line for daily drinking.
