Quick trip by Riccardo Viscardi and Stefania Vinciguerra to say hello to some friends and preview some icons: Sassicaia 2022(Tenuta San Guido), Redigaffi, Per Sempre and Giusto di Notri 2022(Tua Rita). Passing through Poggio al Tesoro and finding a splendid Sondraia 2021.
Quick foray into Tuscany’s most famous wine coast and beyond. An official engagement you have already read about (the official presentation of Ornellaia 2022) and a few digressions with unexpected surprises.
First of all, the visit to the Bolgheri Consortium to meet the new director Daniele Parri, chat about appellation developments and book dates for tastings for the Essential Guide 2026. Unfortunately, it was not possible to eat at the osteria Enoteca San Guido because there was no room; so a word of advice: always make reservations a few days in advance. The place deserves.
Sassicaia to Sondraia
Quick salute to Carlo Paoli, general manager of the Tenuta S. Guido, with the first surprise: “We bottled it recently, but would you like to taste Sassicaia 2022?”. Needless to prevaricate, you all know the winery, the wine certainly needs no introduction, so the only news is the new vintage. You can read the tasting notes at the bottom of the article.

Quick but excellent lunch at Osteria Caccia al Piano with Christian Coco, winemaker at Poggio al Tesoro, who gave us a preview of Sondraia 2021, the winery’s Bolgheri Superiore. This vintage sees the market with an extended bottle aging of a full 12 months. An oenological choice we agree with, it gives the wine a better definition of details thanks to the longer aging, especially on tannic texture and precision of the fruit. The bottle was not even labeled but the tasting was extremely positive.
Poggio al Tesoro is rapidly climbing the Bolgheri hierarchies and with this Bolgheri Superiore is consistently in the best five of the vintage.
Bolgheri to Suvereto
Leaving the cypress-lined driveway of the osteria behind us (in Bolgheri, cypresses are a must) we head toward Rome with a small detour to Suvereto for a greeting to Tua Rita. Stefano Frascolla, as always affable, let us find on the table the new vintage of the magical estate trio in the 2022 version. Giusto di Notri is already in good shape, snappy, sunny and harmonious; Per Sempre in this 2022 version, is magical: a great Syrah. Redigaffi? Well, at least of this super champion we do not give you anticipations: you will only read about it in the Essential Guide 2026 that we will present in early October in Milan.
