Tenuta Donna Elvira and its wines

Sara Fink Tenuta Donna Elvira - Giulio Martino fotografo

Tenuta Donna Elvira wines and that mix of London charm and Italian authenticity.

It is beautiful, modern and well-equipped winery at Tenuta Donna Elvira. It is due to Tony Fink, an Englishman with Italian roots, who bought the first land in 2010 in the gentle slopes of Montemilletto, at an altitude of 450 meters. Painstaking work to clear them of boulders and debris from the volcanic eruptions of Vesuvius and Vulture and plant the first vines there. And with stones he builds the cellar.

A step back in history

Many years ago, Elvira, an Irpinian, emigrated to London and met Austrian Arturo Fink there. They fall in love, get married, and Tony is born. After many years, the couple decided to come to Italy, to live a quieter life away from the chaos of London. Tony Fink thus builds a winery not far from his parents’ new home, in a location that affords incredible views, as far as framing Taurasi Castle on the horizon.

He dedicated it to his mother
, a courageous and strong woman, and lets the estate be managed by her daughter Sara, who lives between London and Italy, availing herself of the collaboration of agronomist Mirco Colella, head of the estate, and winemaker Arturo Erbaggio.

Keep calm and carry on

The sustainability is one of the cornerstones of Tenuta Donna Elvira, with an integrated production aimed at limiting treatments, free in all cases of insecticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. Vineyards, in addition to Montemilletto where they are planted to Aglianico, are located in Lapio, Montefusco and Santa Paolina, for a total of 10 hectares and 35,000 bottles and with a much higher production potential. The British character of the property, encapsulated in the famous slogan “
keep calm and carry on
” precisely requires calmness for the development of a good project and the necessary time.

The range of wines

The range of wines includes whites Falanghina, Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, which rest for a long time in steel and then in the bottle before being put on the market. For the reds, the Campi Taurasini and the Taurasi (with which they do really important work on the selection of wood for aging) that show a lot of youth, despite the fact that the vintages on the market are older than those stipulated in the production specifications.

Right now the Fringilla Falanghina
, the Fink Fiano di Avellino and the Entonos Campi Taurini, are attention-grabbing wines. Entonos stands out for its excellent raw material, amplitude and balanced tannins. Wines that are linear, authentic and readable, at times elegant and with great aging potential.
