A meeting at the winery allowed the press to learn more about the selections, vineyards and cellar of this important producer in the Colli Orientali del Friuli.
Just at the beginning of spring, the Butussi family wanted to organize a meeting with the trade press to present the company and in particular its selections.
Availing themselves of the collaboration of PR Communicating Wine, present with the discreet and efficient Theresa Balaara, the three brothers Filippo, Mattia and Tobia introduced the attendees to the organically farmed vineyards, located at Prà di Corte, just north of Corno di Rosazzo, a highly vocated area in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Then I turn to the cellar, where within a few years we will come to use stainless steel, wood and cement in a ratio of 40, 30 and 30.
The tasting
Finally in a small room of Villa Butussi, the family’s excellent agriturismo, seven vintages of the Sauvignon Genesis, produced on average in 2000 examples, which we at DoctorWine regularly award in the

Amazing Genesis 2000, well supported by wood passage, broad, buttery, complex and long. Then the 2011 vintages and the last on the market 2021 stood out. Common character: elegant drinkability, far from cloying expressions.
On the rise turned out to be the vintages of the Pinot Grigio ramato from the Madonna d’Aiuto selection 2018 to 2020, fresh and remarkably clean.
Moving on to the reds
Among the three samples of Cabernet Sauvignon Santuari (2013, 2016 and 2019) the ’16 stood out, not surprisingly an expression of a vintage that was quite hot in Friuli.
Finally, two samples of Refosco dal peduncolo rosso from the 2016 and 2019 selection Godje along with a well-preserved Rosso di Corte 2009, a blend of Refosco, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc.
Angelo Butussi has therefore handed over the entire management of the family business to three passionate, competent and hard-working young men. Surely they know and will know how to implement without daring but with continuous comparison with each other and the markets this beautiful reality of the Colli Orientali del Friuli.
