Red wine of 2018, a tribute to Agar Bonati Sorbatti by his family. Agar Limited Edition is a very rare wine, only 100 bottles, created to celebrate the 1923 engineering degree of the owners’ grandmother.
Some time ago we got a bottle to taste. Peculiar packaging, relevant bottle. A note explained that it was a very important bottle for the Marche company Tenute Muròla, a wine dedicated to one of the most important women in the family.
Then the bottle (I confess with some shame) was buried under the dozens and dozens of other bottles that arrived for the tastings of the Essential Guide and only the other day, putting it back, it popped up. It was enough to reread the card, just a few lines, to trigger curiosity. Both the box and the label bore the image of a woman, looking strong and motherly at the same time, intent on “caressing” the earth.
Who was this woman?
A very quick search on the company website unveiled the story of “Agar.” These are. Agar Bonati Sorbatti, the first woman engineer in her region, Marche, and seventh in Italy. It was the year 1923 when she graduated. A trailblazer in every sense of the word, a woman against the tide, certainly fearless. In those days women did not go to college, much less engineering.
Again the site informs that Agar loved nature and its harmony, the simple life. “In her head, engineering; in her heart, the earth“.
100 bottles for 100 years since graduation
To celebrate the centenary of graduation, descendants of the Bonati Sorbatti family (the Italian-Polish Jurek and Edward Mosiewicz) had planned an exclusive wine, only 100 bottles, and a collaboration with Italian artist and illustrator Gianluca Folì, who had been entrusted with the task of designing the label.
Each bottle in the numbered series comes with a certificate of uniqueness and is hand-signed by Jurek Mosiewicz. Of course, it is not for sale except in the company store and in the online shop. Qualche bottiglia deve esserci ancora, visto che non è ancora apparsa la scritta “non disponibile”.
Red wine 2018
No appellation for this particular wine, which is made from grapes from the Levante vineyard, halfway between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, exposed to the sun and sea breezes. This is a 2018 blend where 80% Sangiovese meets Merlot. La maturazione è in barrique per 5 anni. Agar Limited Edition is an elegant wine that catches the eye and sticks in the memory.
