Marco Felluga passed away yesterday. He was 96 years old and went to join his brother Livio who left years ago at more than 100.
Marco was one of the giants of Italian wine. He founded the winery in Gradisca that bore his name and had the lion of St. Mark on its label, as if to say that symbol was part of his character.
Later, in the late 1970s, it was the turn of Russiz Superiore, in Collio, Capriva, a winery that represented and still represents a landmark for Friulian vitienology.
He had lost his son Roberto, who passed away prematurely, a couple of years ago, and got back into the game so that his granddaughter Ilaria could take the reins of thebusiness. Lately there has also been talk of negotiations to sell controlling stakes to a famous winery in Veneto, something that could materialize soon.
Marco will not see this. He left taking with him an extraordinary charisma and pride in all that he managed to accomplish in his long life. A real lion.
