Pietro Alagna, Honorary President of Cantine Pellegrino in Marsala, passed away on Aug. 26 at the age of 96.
A leading figure in Italian oenology, he made a fundamental contribution to linking Marsala’s oenological history with today’s winemaking modernity.

A leading figure in Italian oenology, Pietro Alagna dedicated his life to the promotion and development of Sicilian viticulture, leaving an indelible legacy in the wine world and in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Who was Peter Alagna
Born April 21, 1928 in Marsala, Pietro Alagna began his journey in the world of wine at a young age, developing a passion that led him to become one of the most revolutionary men in the industry.
His career has been studded with awards, thanks to his ability to combine tradition and innovation.
Alagna was a pioneer in the industry, helpingto launch and enhance the Mediterranean’s largest wine-growing area in western Sicily.
His vision transformed the perception of Sicilian wine in Italy and around the world, bringing lesser-known terroirs to the forefront and advocating sustainable and responsible farming practices.
He has actively participated in conferences and seminars, sharing his knowledge and inspiring new generations in the industry.

Funeral services will be held Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mother Church in Marsala, where friends, colleagues and his admirers are invited to pay their respects.
