DoctorWine Essential Guide: 2025 edition ready

Guida Essenziale ai vini d'Italia 2025 DoctorWine by Daniele Cernilli

PRESS RELEASE – It will be presented in Milan on Sept. 28 and 29 and in Rome on Oct. 6 with highly anticipated tasting booths dedicated to the many excellent producers in the Guide and their great wines.

“There is so much discussion about the relevance of wine guides that they seem anachronistic to many, yet our Essential Guide continues to be so successful, even growing year by year. I believe it is being recognized for its role as an honest, disinterested and qualified annual survey of the state of Italian wine. This in my opinion is its most authentic sense and also its role, which is one of information and service even more than of judgment on the wines considered and evaluated.

We are told that over time the Essential Guide has become an increasingly expected tool not only for those who are simply enthusiasts and are looking for a compass, trusted suggestions to guide their choices, but also for those whose work requires them to keep abreast of new vintages, new products, new trends but who do not have the time to taste with extension and continuity.

The huge success of the public that enlivens our official presentations with their tasting stands every year I think is the best testimony to this, and it is a huge satisfaction for us that we also want to interpret as a sign of positivity and optimism for Italian wine.”

Daniele Cernilli, September 2024

1300 wineries selected, for a total of 3254 wines reviewed out of the more than 20 thousand tasted by Daniele Cernilli and his collaborators during the year, with a “turnover” of wineries of about 10% compared to the previous year.
And then again 510 wines that stand out for their excellent quality/price ratio as they cost less than 15 euros in wine shops having received an excellent score, 59 wines that were awarded the double or triple facet – the seal with Daniele Cernilli’s face certifying their excellence -, a selection of the best wines from single grape varieties and 17 Special Awards including, for the first time, the “Most Beautiful Label 2025” award.
These, in short, are the features of the eleventh edition of DoctorWine’s Essential Guide to the Wines of Italy, one of the most authoritative on the Italian wine scene, and among the most eagerly awaited by the vast audience of wine lovers, the producers themselves and the sector operators who find it an excellent tool for updating, training and selecting labels to include in their assortments.
