Marchesi di Barolo
DESCRIPTION
Here, exactly in 1861, modern Barolo was born. This was then the estate of the marquise Giulia Falletti Colbert, who with the help of the French oenologist Oudart made a sweet wine from raisin grapes into the great red we know today. After World War II the property was acquired by the Abbona family, and today the descendant Ernesto and his wife Anna take care of it. They own many vineyards in Barolo, much of the Sarmassa cru in particular, and recently bought Cascina Bruciata in Barbaresco from Carlo Balbo, a tiny but prestigious estate.
