Very small place in the historic center of Orvieto, all-Neapolitan staff and very classic pizzas.
A simple pizzeria, but sure goodness.
We recently went to Umbria, to Orvieto, to see two things we had been longing to see for many years now: the beautiful Duomo of beautiful Gothic architecture and St. Patrick’s Well.
In retrospect they were both beautiful and definitely worth it, but be forewarned: visiting the Well in summer, on a day of very high temperatures and equal humidity, was especially tiring.
Once we resurfaced after the very severe ascent, we had been unleashed with a thirst and hunger like hell!
It was urgent to refresh ourselves properly.
So, following web directions, we reached the historic center of this beautiful town.
The pizzeria is tiny: one room with a kitchen and wood-burning oven, while the tables are in the elegant outdoor veranda and a few in the adjacent alleyway.
Everything is very simple, from the menus with plastic sheets, to the willing operation of the very kind and friendly staff, all Neapolitan.
The menu is varied and includes also beautiful dishes of authentic Neapolitan and Campanian cuisine., but we went for pizza and beer.
Naturalmente le pizze sono classic, with no pseudo-gourmet digressions.
Nice pizzas, very good, very well seasoned, flavorful and very digestible.
As an appetizer we tasted some supplì which had a very soft texture, but the flavor was there all right, a real treat!
A few beers on tap, a few wines, a few desserts, and the game is soon over. Very good prices, for a good dinner and a place that is perhaps simple but sure to satisfy. And often, in much more sophisticated places, this is not always the case. Try it to believe.
Highly recommended reservation.
