Terriccio is something rare and in some respects out of time, its extension means that within it there are many different landscapes, soils, flora and fauna always different. The Estate offers views of great beauty: vineyards alternate with woods of turkey oaks, oaks, holm oaks, eucalyptus and Mediterranean scrub that colors and perfumes the landscape.
Beyond the scrub still meadows, farmhouses, grassy expanses sloping down to the sea that bounds the Maremma coast between Castiglioncello and Bibbona.
From the property four islands of the Tuscan archipelago can be seen on clear days:
Gorgona, Capraia and Elba, as well as Corsica.

The lucky combination of soil, air and light, as well as the proximity of the sea, make unique this microcosm where nature and human intervention are integrated with balance, which with foresight has been able to To safeguard over time the unity and biodiversity of this large portion of land, perfectly framing the planting of vineyards alongside wild vegetation and other crops.

The large size of the property allowed during the planting of the vineyards to Spotty selection of the most suitable soils by soil characteristics, dew point, exposure to sea breezes and sunlight.

The choice of varieties to be brought to the Soil was particularly scrupulous, made with a careful selection of international strains and therefore different from Sangiovese and traditional white grapes, glimpsing the possibility of achieving with new grape varieties important results and at the same time able to remain constant on the highest levels of quality.

After the Sauvignon Blanc introduced in 1989, red grapes soon followed: the Cabernet Franc, the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot, which have found particular expression in the territories of the property.

The research journey continued in the early 1990s when the Syrah, the Viognier and then the Petit Verdot, used for experimentation in the vineyard to expand the ampelographic platform and used in micro-vinifications in the winery to test acclimatization and expression capacity.

With the 1992 vintage, the following are born. Tassinaia and With Wind, the first wines conceived by Gian Annibale Rossi of Medelana, the 1993 vintage Instead, it marks the birth of Lupicaia which immediately reveals the disruptive class of the champion. With the 2000 vintage sees the light of day Castello del Terriccio who immediately establishes himself as the company’s second star performer.

The September 2022 release of Gian Annibale, presented with the 2018 vintage, adds a new big red to the range.
