Ruffino was founded in Pontassieve, in the heart of Tuscany, in 1877, by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, who dreamed of bringing the “ideal wine” to every table in the world. For morè than 140 years, Ruffino has been true to this dream, producing wines from its estates located in the most̀ important Tuscan appellations, from Chianti Classico to Montalcino to Bolgheri, that today are enjoyed and loved in more than 90 countries around the world.
Consistent with its DNA as a company capable of creating the new traditions of tomorrow, since 2023 Ruffino has decided to undertake an unprecedented transformation, until it became an absolute benchmark of high prestige Tuscan wines. A magical, finely renovated place where some of Ruffino’s greatest wines, such as Modus Primo and Alauda, have always been produced. The Knoll of Cassius
Renaissance villa, farm, wine estate: the highly refined Ruffino Poggio Casciano estate still preserves its timeless charm and deepest soul in a contemporary and welcoming language. The name is derived from the Roman centurion Cassius who, victorious in battle, had received as a gift a hillock with the only “obligation” to introduce there the cultivation of vines and olive trees, as proper elements of the Mediterranean civilization.
Alongside the wine production that has always characterized it, over the centuries there have been illustrious families who also helped make it a bustling artistic, cultural and scientific center. The Della Robbia family, famous potters, lived here. Moreover, one of the earliest treatises on Sangiovese is due to the 16th-century agronomist Giovanni Vittorio Soderini of Poggio Casciano.
This legacy suspended between wine, art and science is still present today: the estate, including its historic winery, has been renovated in its rooms and gentrified with works of art by contemporary artists and designers in a fruitful dialogue between past and future.

Ruffino offers numerous tour & tasting activities, showcasing its mastery of wine making for over 140 years. The tours, led by the Brand Ambassador, allow visitors to discover the evocative history of Ruffino and learn about its wines, starting in the vineyards, all organically managed, and descending into the spectacular, elegantly restored underground cellar.
Among the most fascinating experiences: Tradition Reinvented, where we discover Riserva Ducale Oro, and Mastery Since 1877, for a sensory and unique journey through all the production estates. And for lovers of mature wines, verticals of historic vintages of Riserva Ducale Oro, perfectly preserved inside Of the estate’s bottle shop.
Wine bar with aperitifs

Three Frogs Restaurant with lodge and private events
The Tre Rane Restaurant offers refined Tuscan-inspired dishes with an elegant contemporary twist, with local and seasonal products from the land and sea. The name Three Frogs is inspired by a legend concerning Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance genius. In fact, it is said that in the second half of the 15th century the young Leonardo, then a pupil of Verrocchio, had the idea of opening an inn on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence with his friend Sandro Botticelli, called precisely Le Tre Rane, in the belief that food and wine could represent a form of art and beauty, inclusiveness and attention to detail.
