Orcia Wine Festival: the most beautiful wine in the world celebrated in its own territory, April 24-27 in San Quirico d’Orcia with a rich program enveloping the denomination.

Countdown to the 14th edition of Orcia Wine Festival, the Orcia Doc wine market exhibition that tells the Unesco World Heritage landscape through the excellence of wine.

From April 24 to 27, the market exhibition featuring Orcia Doc wines promoted by the Municipality of San Quirico d’Orcia, in collaboration with the Orcia Wine Consortium, will be held in San Quirico d’Orcia. Set up in the evocative halls of Palazzo Chigi, for four days it will host guided technical tastings and tasting counters.

From being a market exhibition of the “most beautiful wine in the world,” as the appellation is called as it celebrates its first 25 years this year, over the years it has become a multisensory event. Operators will be able to taste wines directly from the tasting counter with about 20 wineries, or in the master classes and seminars scheduled. But the event is also open to the many tourists and wine enthusiasts who will choose the Val d’Orcia during the long weekend of April 25.

“An event that enhances the oenological excellence of the Val d’Orcia and that confirms itself as a container of an entire territory,” stresses Marco Bartoli, mayor of the municipality of San Quirico d’Orcia, “of its valuable productions and its peculiarities, with in-depth and technical tastings, opportunities to learn about the wines and wineries, through dedicated tours, and immersed in the most beautiful landscape in the world.

“It will be a very special edition this one because it is the year in which our DOC celebrates its first quarter century”-explains Giulitta Zamperini president of the Orcia Wine Consortium. “An event that is one of a kind thanks above all to the collaboration between our reality and the Municipal Administration of San Quirico d’Orcia that gives us the opportunity to showcase our wines in exceptional places.”

The Orcia Wine Festival is promoted by the Municipality of San Quirico d’Orcia, in collaboration with the Orcia Wine Consortium. It takes place, as mentioned, in the halls of Palazzo Chigi Zondadari, as well as in the territory. A real festival that, starting with Orcia Doc wine, the true prince of the event, offers initiatives designed for winelovers, but also for those who want to discover a territory, that of the Val d’Orcia, unique in the world.

The program in detail:

• Thursday, April 24 at 5:45 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. opening of the fourteenth edition of the exhibition with a special tour of the Horti Leonini and the city walls
• Thursday, April 24 Night tour
• Friday, April 25 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. opening of tasting tables of Orcia Doc wineries at Palazzo Chigi Zondadari
• Saturday, April 26, in addition to the market exhibition and a technical seminar, will be the day of the traditional Dinner at the Palace, at 8:15 pm.
• Sunday, April 27, opens at 9:30 a.m. with a trek .
• On Sunday, April 27, at 12:30 p.m., the streets of the village will be colored by the costume parade of the Barbarossa Festival districts.
• A masterclass led by Alessandro Brizi of ONAV’s L’Assaggiatore magazine will be held on Sunday, April 27, at 10 a.m.
• During the four days of Orcia Wine Festival there will be urban trekking, guided tours to discover the wonders of the historic center of San Quirico d’Orcia.
• The following will also remain open and can be visited free of charge at Palazzo Chigi Zondadari: Barbarossa Museum, Forme nel Verde Museum and the Sienese Pottery Exhibition.

Doc numbers

Established in February 2000, Orcia Doc gathers in its production area twelve municipalities south of Siena. To date there are 153 hectares of vineyards declared out of a potential total of 400 hectares. The average annual production is around 255,631 bottles made by the approximately 60 wineries in the area, of which more than 30 are members of the Protection Consortium. Since 2014, the Consortium has been in charge of Erga Omnes supervision and promotion of all producers in the denomination. The Protection Consortium is responsible for promoting the denomination through various actions, from the web to signage in the territory, through incoming journalists and buyers from all over the world. Territorial events including the Orcia Wine Festival itself are now of reference.
