Hiromi – La Maison: in Rome for an experiential trip to Japan

New opening: In Rome, it's time to enter "Hiromi's house," Hiromi - La Maison, to discover even more Japanese culture, from breakfast to after dinner among sake tastings, mixology, bistro and pastries.

In October 2018, Hiromi Cake lands in Rome to bring the art of Japanese pastry to the capital. After 5 years and other openings between Rome and Milan, Hiromi Cake expands into a new project, “Hiromi – La Maison.” A full immersion journey into Japanese culture and all its fascinating Eastern nuances.

In Via Reggio Emilia, 24 – in the Porta Pia area – a space has come to life in which to discover Japan in all its authenticity: here Asian culture will enliven the days from the morning with Japanese language and calligraphy classes, traditional pastry classes with a focus on typical products and, in general, everything related to the culture of the people of the Rising Sun. Obviously great attention to cuisine with lunches and dinners-a riot of traditional Kansai recipes and excellent sushi, strictly directed by master Aiuchi Takehiko. Selection of sweets and Japanese tea to be drunk according to local customs provided for the tea ceremony (of course without shoes and kneeling on the tatami, specially flown in from Japan). We then move on to aperitifs with great emphasis on the world of sake and Asian mixology, paired with typical gastronomic delicacies. Hiromi – In fact, the Maison lends itself to having the largest display of sake in Italy that will serve as both a wine shop (where you can buy and take away) and a Sake bar, where you can consume on the spot and choose from 25 sake on tap and up to 160 sake on display, narrated by the sake sommelier on the team-Maurizio Converso-and through close collaboration with the Sakè Sommelier Association and Sake Company. The cocktails then, made by talented bartenders Simone Francia and Maurizio Converso, will all have a distinct Japanese slant with Japanese whiskey, gin or rum and other typical ingredients made from miso, shōchu or wasabi.
The entire staff is led by Director Fiammetta Oliverio, who boasts prestigious experience in important venues in Milan and the capital and brings to Hiromi – La Maison her well-established skills, which make her a true hostess.

Then in the outdoor dehors is the heart of the sign, the striking Zen Garden created by artist Akiyama Nobushige: an artist from the Japanese Cultural Institute who has been able to bring the charm of Japanese gardens to the capital.

The garden is a true art installation inspired by Japanese Zen gardens. Two unique works by the master distinguish the work: theTsukubai, a small stone basin into which water, traditionally used for purification, flows in perpetual motion. The movement generates a muffled sound on the bamboo, as if to mark time passing inexorably. The second work, engraved on stone, is a short poem, a “haiku”(encounter). A space then where one should place the whole body and the whole spirit in the encounter, regardless of where it takes place, in a tea room, on the street or in the privacy of our thoughts.

Inside the venue, customers will also be able to “admire” through a window the pastry workshop where Hiromi Cake’s wonderful creations are made, which has expanded exponentially in the last period, serving more than 250 restaurants, making major catering and special projects, such as the single-portion dedicated to Sonic’s (the most famous blue hedgehog in video games) birthday. In addition, he has set up an exclusive laboratory where up to 100,000 cakes can be produced per month.
Desserts are by Japanese Pastry Chef Mitsuko Takei and staff led by Diana Calcagni.

Hiromi – La Maison is the synthesis of Japanese culture brought to Rome to make it known in all its essence, in an intimate and reserved setting.
